Before Edison

I'm just sitting here in the dark
I wish the light was better
Don't want to sit forever
I'm looking for the panoramic view
Don't want to paint two pictures
I wish I had a lighted fixture
On the wall

And I am sitting there with no light at all
Just a kerosene lantern down the hall
And a candle that always melts the wax
So, all we ever really see is black

I crashed into my wife today
She was two steps ahead
I thought she'd be in bed instead
It's hard to see her in the dark
She's such a tiny woman
I guess I hadn't heard her coming
Down the hall

And I was sitting there with no light at all
Just a lantern that has burnt out down the hall
And a candle that melted all its wax
So, all we ever really see is black

It's such an inconvenience when we cannot see
Wish someone would develop new technology tonight

And I was sitting there with no light at all
Just a lantern that has burnt out down the hall
And a candle that melted all its wax
So, all we ever really see is black

And I was sitting there with no light at all
Just a lantern that has burnt out down the hall
And the matches for the fire will not spark
So all we ever really see is dark
